This now unique vehicle was built at Derby in 1930 as a corridor third with end vestibules and toilets, and seven compartments with seating for 56. It was one of only ten coaches built to more generous dimensions than other third class vehicles specifically for use with the 'Royal Scot' train. Originally numbered 3030 this was soon altered to 1501, becoming Ml501M in B.R. days. It was withdrawn from regular passenger use in the late 1950's and in 1962 was converted into a Chief Civil Engineers Staff & Dormitory coach for working with engineer's track machines, and was also numbered as DM395801. It was condemned in 1979, purchased for preservation and moved to the Mid-Hants Railway, coming to Bitton in 1986. It remained stored at Bitton until it was sold to the LMS Carriage Association in August 1998.
