DB 994275 is a member of the Sturgeon Wagon fleet. These vehicles were designed to carry track componants for maintenance but ended up being used for various duties due to their high carrying capacity (50t) and long size.
DB 994275 was outshopped from Thornaby Works to diagram 1/645 by BR in 1956, eventually being converted to diagram 1/647 with removable stanchions and bolsters. When it was withdrawn it was purchased by the North Yorkshire Moors Railway for their engineering department, arriving at the railway in September 1997.
DB 994275 was purchased by the AVRHT in August 2025 eventually arriving at the railway in September of the same year. This wagon will be put to use carrying the rail and sleepers it was originally designed for to allow us to undertake track maintenance at the AVR.
