It saw almost 50 years in service, being withdrawn by British Rail in 1985 at Peterborough. It was originally purchased by a group based at the Great Central Railway in Leicestershire before being purchased by the London Midland Society in 2007 and subsequently moved to Bitton. The van makes occasional appearances in AVR's demonstration freight trains.
